2019 NEAC Women's Soccer Preseason Preview

LATHAM, N.Y. - With the 2019 season set to begin this weekend, twelve women's soccer teams are preparing to compete for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crown. The rest of the league will be looking to unseat Penn State Berks as the Nittany Lions have been winners of the last six conference championships. A familiar foe in Penn State Harrisburg will also return to the NEAC after a stint in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). Following the conclusion of the regular season, the top six teams will advance to the NEAC Tournament where the conference champion will receive an automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.

Cazenovia College
Head Coach: Hannah Tigh, 1st Season

Coach's Season Outlook: We are looking to build on last year's historic season and make another run into the NEAC Final Four.  Three of our five all-conference selections are returning for this season and we will look to them for leadership to guide this team to another successful year.

Gallaudet University

Coach's Season Outlook:
Gallaudet women's soccer returns nine starters including senior goalie Silvya Levesque and midfield/forward Hannah Neild (seven goals, five assists) from last year's squad. GU will need to replace its top two scorers, who accounted for 57 percent of its goals scored. Junior midfielder Sabrina Hernandez (three goals, four assists) will lead the middle of the field while junior Eve Wood-Jacobowitz and sophomore Krista Kachnik anchor Gallaudet's defense in front of Levesque. GU will turn to newcomers Payton DeGraw, Herianne Jansen and Courtney Gentzke to provide a spark for the Bison in 2019.

Keuka College

Coach's Season Outlook:
The Wolves look to continue the momentum from 2018 where Keuka won the NEAC Regular Season title and tied the program record for wins in a season. Leading the returners for Keuka is Emily McGuigan. The senior needs five goals this season to set a new career record at Keuka College. The overall core of the team has an added year of experience. Last year's talented freshman class that featured four all-conference players are all back and ready to lead the Wolves.

Lancaster Bible

Coach's Season Outlook:
The Chargers will look to advance to the NEAC Playoffs for the ninth-straight season, as they welcome the largest roster in program history (37 players). Lancaster Bible has lots of young talent, and must mesh it with the returners as soon as possible. Hubbard and Hoover should produce goals for the Chargers, while Mikula enters her second year between the pipes.

Morrisville State

With a new coach to grace the sidelines, the Mustangs will have a new style of play against opponents that have seen Morrisville State make an appearance in the NEAC tournament the past three seasons under direction of Amanda Gagliano. The Mustangs have 14 returning to the squad that added 10 newcomers that will make an immediate impact on their success this season.

Penn College

We return most of our 2018 roster, so we have the opportunity to build upon last year’s success and are hopeful to return to the NEAC conference tournament this fall. This feat will be difficult considering the competition in the conference, but with commitment and dedication to our program, the team has the potential to reach their post-season goals. Anything is possible in 2019.

Despite losing a large senior class from last season, we have high expectations for this upcoming year. There is a very talented group of returners and we have a strong group of freshmen and transfers on our roster. The team is focused and cannot wait to get into playing games. We have a difficult non-conference schedule that will prepare us for the NEAC and postseason if we qualify.

Coach's Season Outlook:
Penn State Harrisburg returns to the NEAC for the 2019 season after five years of competition in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The Lions are led by 2018 CAC All-Conference Second-Team selections in senior defenders Mackenzie Haladay and Madison Hemler. Senior forward Kristen Stark is back and can become the program’s all-time leading scorer by season’s end, senior Elizabeth Clippinger will lead the way in the midfield and sophomore forward Rhyan Socash is set to have a bigger role in the offense this fall.

Wells will return six players who appeared in 10 or more games last year including defensive midfield standouts Alisa Hines and Erin Persons. The leading returning scorer is rising sophomore Mackenzie Powers who scored three goals with one assist last year. Four-time all-conference performer Mackenzie Maloney graduated.
