Keuka College Suffers Defeat at Wilson College in CSAC Semifinals

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – A flurry of late-game goals left Keuka College on the losing end of a 2-1 outcome at Wilson College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinal on Tuesday evening.

Tuesday’s contest was part of the agreement between the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and the CSAC in the sport of field hockey. The NEAC champion advanced to the CSAC Tournament for the semifinal round to compete for a shot at the automatic qualifier to the 2018 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament. With the win, Wilson College will travel to Keystone College on Saturday to crown the CSAC champion.

Despite four penalty corners for Keuka College and three for Wilson College in the first half, the game remained scoreless at halftime. Skylar Gilmore (Greene, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for Keuka College at 58:35 off an assist from Shelby Lamb (Clay, N.Y.). The Wolves lead was a short-lived one though as Wilson College tied it up 58 seconds later on an unassisted goal from Payton Dziemburski (Rising Sun, Md.). Less than eight minutes later, the Phoenix scored the eventual game-winning goal from Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa.).

Keuka College goalie Kassidy Valentine (Sauquoit, N.Y.) made seven saves in the loss while the Wolves also picked up three team saves. The loss brings Keuka College’s season to an end with a 6-11 overall record. The six wins in 2018 is a new single-season program record for the Wolves.
