Merrill & Scharoun Named NEAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

LATHAM, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced Megyan Merrill from Morrisville State and Maritza Scharoun from Wells College as the women’s volleyball Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively.

Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) led Morrisville State to a 3-1 week, including 1-0 in NEAC play, as she compiled a week's total 69 kills, two assists, and seven service aces while collecting 42 digs defensively. Merrill posted double-doubles in three matches on the week, including posting a week's high 31 kills and 14 digs in the 3-1 conference win over Keuka College. In that same match, Merrill posted 7.75 kills per set, and collected 33.5 total points, an average of 8.4 per set. The senior followed with two additional double-doubles on the week, in a win over Canton and loss to St. Lawrence. On the week, Merrill averaged 5.31 kills per set, hit .363 from the floor, and averaged 3.23 digs per set, while accounting for 5.9 points per set.

Maritza Scharoun (Bronx, N.Y.) averaged 1.55 blocks per set defensively for the Express in a 2-1 week. The junior had eight total blocks; including three solo efforts in a sweep of Keuka College. For the week, Scharoun totaled 17 blocks, six solos, in 11 sets. Offensively, Scharoun tallied 11 kills and hit .207. This season the New York native is second in the NEAC with 68 total blocks, 23 solo, and T2 with 45 block assists.
