Wells Sweeps NEAC Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

LATHAM, N.Y. – Wells College’s Vincent Chen and Saoirse Murphy-Collins are this week’s North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men’s and women’s swimming and diving Players of the Week.  

Vincent Chen (Charlestown, Mass.) recorded a win and two second-place finishes. The win came for Chen in the 200-yard freestyle. The freshman touched the wall in 2:03.02, which was 5.1 seconds ahead of second. Chen was second in the 100-yard free (55:44) and the 400 IM (5:04.95). The times rank in the top 10 in program history their respective events. The time is the fourth-fastest 400 IM time, eighth fastest in the 200 free, and tied for ninth in the 100 free in Wells history,

Saoirse Murphy-Collins (Syracuse, N.Y.) won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle and finished second in the 50-yard free at the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational. The freshman won the 200 free in 2:14.1 and the 500 in 6:04.68. The win in the 200 came by only six-tenths of a second. In the 500, Murphy-Collins won by close to seven seconds.
