Vertoske, Strait Receive Final NEAC Baseball Weekly Awards of 2019

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced Brooks Vertoske and Jared Strait as its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in baseball for the week ending May 5. Today’s honors mark the final weekly awards of the 2018-19 academic year.                                                                

Brooks Vertoske (Horseheads, N.Y.) from Keuka College has been named NEAC Baseball Player of the Week for the second time this season after going 8-for-18 at the plate in five games. The Wolves’ junior infielder batted .444 with three doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs, eight runs scored and a stolen base to help Keuka go 4-1 on the week and clinch the NEAC Regular Season Title. Vertoske’s biggest hit of the week came in the bottom of the sixth against Cazenovia College when he hit a three-run home run to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Wolves to a 4-1 victory.

Jared Strait (Lansing, N.Y.) from Wells College has been selected as the NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game three-hit shutout in the final game of the regular season. Strait retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced and struck out seven to secure the Express a 5-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill and a spot in the NEAC Tournament for the first time in program history. The junior pitcher also pitched an inning of scoreless relief in a win over Cazenovia College where he struck out two. Strait finished the week with nine strikeouts.


The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has 12 NCAA Division III member institutions which include: Cazenovia College, College of Saint Elizabeth, Gallaudet University, Keuka College, Lancaster Bible College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Pennsylvania State University – Abington, Pennsylvania State University – Berks, SUNY Cobleskill, Morrisville State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, and Wells College. Associate members are: Cedar Crest College (W Swimming), D’Youville College (W Lacrosse), Hilbert College (M&W Lacrosse), Medaille College (M&W Lacrosse), Rutgers University – Camden (M Golf), and Wilson College (M Volleyball).
