O'Loughlin, Russo Named NEAC Men's Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced Caden O'Loughlin and Matthew Russo as its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s volleyball for the week ending Feb. 3.

Caden O’Loughlin (Louisville, Ky.) from Wells College has been recognized as the NEAC Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week with 66 kills and 75 points in a 3-0 week for the Express. The junior outside hitter had 12 kills in a sweep against Hiram before setting a Wells single-match record with 31 kills in a win over Elms. O’Loughlin closed out the weekend with 23 kills against Thiel to help the Express earn a five-set victory. In three matches, O’Loughlin had a .331 hitting percentage and averaged 5.50 kills per set. He also had six service aces, 29 digs and four total blocks to earn his second-straight weekly award after receiving last week’s defensive honors.

Matthew Russo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) from SUNY Poly has been named the NEAC Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week as the Wildcats’ top blocker in four matches last week. The SUNY Poly rookie had four solo blocks on the week which included a pair of solo blocks in back-to-back matches against St. John Fisher and Hiram. Russo totaled eight total blocks and seven digs in four matches. He also helped the Wildcats’ offense with 30 kills and six service aces as SUNY Poly posted a 2-2 record in non-conference play.
