Maalo, Angel Named NEAC Men's Soccer Student-Athletes of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced Abdikarim Maalo and Shane Angel as its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s soccer for the week ending Oct. 21.

Abdikarim Maalo (Syracuse, N.Y.) from Keuka College has been named NEAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week with eight points in two conference contests. The Wolves’ junior midfielder began the weekend with a goal in a 2-0 win against Penn College. Maalo followed up with a career-best two goals and two assists the next day to help lead his team to a 6-1 win over Penn State Berks.

Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) from Gallaudet University has been selected as the NEAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after a 2-1 week with a pair of shutouts. Over the weekend, Angel made 10 saves in an overtime 2-1 loss at Morrisville State and added five saves in a win at Cazenovia. The Bison’s rookie goalkeeper also had six saves in a win against Valley Forge. Angel had 21 saves and a 0.66 goals-against average on the week.
