Penn State Berks Claims Sixth-Straight NEAC Women's Soccer Title

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – With a pair of goals in each half, Penn State Berks won its sixth-straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women’s Soccer Championship with a 4-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Keuka College.

Nittany Lions’ rookie Alexis Schoener (Fleetwood, Pa.) opened the scoring at 29:57 with an assist from Karina Raykova (Yardley, Pa.). JoJo Zolli (Port Washington, N.Y.) added to the lead at 41:56 to make it a 2-0 game heading into halftime. Caitlin Golden (Lumberton, N.J.) scored her Division III-leading 38th goal of the year at 51:51 before Schoener added her second of the afternoon at 65:31 to lock up the win for the Nittany Lions. Schoener was named Tournament Most Valuable Player after contributing three goals and an assist in two games over the weekend.

The Nittany Lions’ offense controlled much of the game with a 25-8 advantage in shots and an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Penn State Berks goalkeeper Bristol Pizzuto (Readington, N.J.) made five saves in the win while Keuka College’s Jessica Pegg (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded 10 saves. The Wolves wrap up a tremendous season with a 13-4-1 overall record while Penn State Berks improves to 15-3-2.

The Nittany Lions will now turn their attention to the 2018 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament with the next matchup announced on Monday on the NCAA Selection Show, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on
