Keuka College Claims 2019 NEAC Women's Basketball Regular Season Title, Postseason Seeding Announced

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – For the first time since 2010 and third time in program history, Keuka College has earned the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women’s Basketball Regular Season Championship. The NEAC has also announced the six teams that have advanced to the 2019 postseason tournament.

Women’s basketball utilizes North and South divisional standings to determine its postseason tournament field with the top three teams from each division advancing. First round matchups will take place within each respective division with the No. 2 seed hosting the No. 3 seed. The No. 1 seed from each division will receive a bye to the NEAC Final Four.

Keuka College and SUNY Poly each finished the regular season with a 9-1 record against North Division opponents. After the application of conference tiebreakers, the two teams remained tied through the first three tiebreakers which include divisional record, head-to-head record among tied teams and results against common opponents in descending order withing division. With margin of victory within division games serving as the fourth tiebreaker, Keuka College was named the No. 1 North seed as the Wolves hold a greater margin of victory in divisional games. SUNY Poly will be the No. 2 North seed while Morrisville State earned the No. 3 North Seed with a 5-5 division record.

In the South Division, Gallaudet University sits at the top with a 9-1 record against divisional opponents. The College of Saint Elizabeth posted an 8-2 mark in the south and will host a First Round game as the No. 2 South Seed. Penn State Abington will enter the tournament as the No. 3 South Seed with a 6-4 division record.

As per the NEAC Basketball Operating Code, the regular season champion and Final Four host is the team that is ranked higher when comparing the top team from each division with the first comparison criteria being overall conference record. With a 14-2 record in all conference games, the No. 1 North Seed Keuka College held the edge on the No. 1 South Seed Gallaudet University as the Bison finished the regular season at 13-3.

All First Round games will be played on Tuesday, Feb. 19 with the following game times:

North Division                                                                          

No. 3 Morrisville State @ No. 2 SUNY Poly – 6 p.m.

South Division

No. 3 Penn State Abington @ No. 2 College of Saint Elizabeth – 7 p.m.

Following the conclusion of the First Round games, the four remaining teams will be reseeded to determine semifinal matchups. Keuka College will host the NEAC Women’s Basketball Final Four scheduled for Feb. 23-24. The winner of the NEAC Championship will receive an automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament.
