GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Two schools finished atop the 2017-18 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men’s swimming and diving preseason poll, with Gallaudet University and SUNY Cobleskill each earning 13 points.

The defending conference champion SUNY Cobleskill received two first-place votes and one second-place vote in this year’s poll. With a new head coach at the helm in Jamie Hotaling, the Fighting Tigers will look to defend their title behind the trio of Sam Datri (Ravena, N.Y.), Mike Girolamo (Waverly, N.Y.) and Joslen Pettit (Gloversville, N.Y.). Datri, who is entering his junior season, is a two-time NEAC Champion and two-time NCAA Regional Qualifier in one-meter diving. Girolamo and Pettit also look to provide depth after winning individual titles in the 1650 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Butterfly, respectively.

Led by two of the top swimmers in the league, Gallaudet University also received 13 points on two first-place votes and one second-place vote. Head Coach Larry Curran enters his sixth season with high hopes as the Bison return reigning NEAC Swimmer of the Year in senior Jonathan Tikhonoff (Folsom, Calif.) and the reigning NEAC Rookie of the Year, Chris Martinez (El Paso, Texas). Tikhonoff and Martinez each received NEAC All-Conference First Team honors in three events at the 2016-17 championship meet while adding Second Team accolades in four events to lead Gallaudet to a second-place team finish.

Cazenovia College and Wells College also tied for third place with five points apiece in this season’s preseason rankings.
