Cazenovia College Women, SUNY Cobleskill Men Add to Leads After NEAC Swimming & Diving Championships Day Two

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Cazenovia College women’s team and the SUNY Cobleskill men’s team remained at the top of the rankings at the conclusion of day two at the 2016-17 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, which are being held at Cazenovia College Feb. 10-12.

On the women’s side, all five teams in the field remained in the same positions. The Wildcats brought their points total to 457 after winning the 200-yard freestyle and the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Cedar Crest College Falcons are in second place with 306 points, while the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers held on to third place with 231 points. The Wells College Express remain close behind in fourth with 202 points and the Gallaudet University Bison are fifth with 174 points.

The men’s rankings also remained unchanged with the Fighting Tigers men’s team extending its lead by a sizeable margin with 434 points after three more wins. Gallaudet won two events to add to its second-place total of 259 points, while Wells sits in third with 221 points and Cazenovia closes out the field with 154 points.

Four more championship meet records were reset on day two with the men and women each claiming a pair of records. Cedar Crest College senior Maggie Olock (Bethlehem, Pa.) broke another one of her own records, touching the wall in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.90 to top her previous record of 1:10.58 set at last year’s championships. The Cedar Crest College’s women’s 200-yard medley relay team of Olock, Ciara Lane (Northampton, Pa.), Nithya Lakshminarayanan (Newtown, Pa.), and Madison Wager (Boyertown, Pa.) set a new record of 1:57.79. The Falcons edged out the 2015 team from the same institution that set the standard at 1:58.00 and was anchored by Lane, Lakshminarayanan, Briana Hall, and Taylor Marshall. In the preliminary round of the 400-yard individual medley, Gallaudet University junior Jonathan Tikhonoff (Folsom, Calif.) with a time of 4:31.26 to break the previous record of 4:46.25 set by Wells College’s Patrick Munroe in 2013. In the last event of the evening, the SUNY Cobleskill 800-yard freestyle medley team of Anthony McGorsik (East Hampton, N.Y.), Mick Fryer (Ravena, N.Y.), Doug Campbell (Montgomery, N.Y.), and Mike Girolamo (Waverly, N.Y.)  cemented their spot in the record book with a time of 7:47.47. Their time topped the 2012 record of 7:48.11 set by Brian Bennett, Robb Ingram, DJ Everton-Lovell, and James McGowan of Gallaudet University.
