NEAC Kicks Off 2018-19 with Debut of #NEACStrong Body Image Campaign

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – With fall sports taking the field in a few weeks, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) is beginning the 2018-19 academic year with the debut of its #NEACStrong Body Image Campaign which features student-athletes from throughout the conference.

“Our senior woman administrators (SWAs) have been very active in pushing new and exciting initiatives over the last few years with the body image campaign being the most recent endeavor to make positive changes on each campus and across the conference as a whole,” said Candice Murray, NEAC Commissioner. “This campaign is an outstanding example of the hard work our SWAs put in to provide support to our student-athletes.”

The campaign was led and facilitated by the NEAC Senior Woman Administrators as an initiative to encourage a positive self-image. The collaborative video project was designed to inspire confidence, recognize strengths and bring student-athletes together to celebrate the things they love about themselves to show that our student-athletes are #NEACStrong.

“The senior woman administrators chose this topic in an effort to encourage student-athletes to embrace a positive self-image by recognizing strengths instead of weaknesses, which is something that can be a difficult endeavor at times,” shared Alena Anthony, Cazenovia College SWA and Chair of the NEAC SWA group. “The finished product is a great example of NEAC student-athletes coming together to support each other in a positive manner and will open the door for future SWA-driven initiatives to support student-athlete well-being.”

“Thank you to all the student-athletes and administrators who took time to assist in this endeavor and special thanks to Cory Schad, Cazenovia College Assistant Athletic Director of Communications and Marketing, for assisting with the production of our video,” Anthony added.

The NEAC Body Image campaign serves as a starting point to a larger conversation about student-athlete well-being and mental health that will continue in the upcoming year throughout the conference. NEAC SAAC will turn its attention to the topic in the coming months with its annual meeting focuses on increasing awareness and enhancing the efforts that are taking place at member institutions to meet the needs of today’s student-athletes.
