Gansevoort, NY – One day after being named the NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week, SUNYIT sophomore Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Upstate Player of the Week for the period ending March 28, 2010.
Vedder earned both awards for her sensational play both at the plate on the mound for SUNYIT this past week, which helped the Wildcats go 3-1 in two doubleheaders against NEAC rivals. Vedder hit .800 on the week, going 12-for-15 at the plate with 13 RBI, six runs scored, five doubles, a triple, a homerun, a sacrifice fly and two walks drawn, while registering a slugging percentage of 1.333 and an on-base percentage of .824. She recorded at least two hits and drove in at least two runs in all four contests on the week, with her best game coming in a record-breaking 22-1 victory over Penn State Harrisburg Sunday, where she finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBI, three runs scored, two doubles and a homerun. The 22 runs were the second-most ever scored by SUNYIT, while the 21 RBI in that game was program best.
On the mound, Vedder went 2-0 with five strikeouts while holding her opponents to a .265 batting average. She also recorded 18 putouts and eight assists in the field with just one error for a fielding percentage of .963.
Vedder currently leads the team in batting average (.590), slugging percentage (1.103), on-base percentage (.595), hits (23), RBI (23), doubles (9), homeruns (3) and total bases (43). As a pitcher, Vedder is 3-2 with a team-high 17 strikeouts.
