Penn State Abington Adds Men's Cross Country as 14th Varsity Sport


Abington, PA - Penn State Abington announced today that the school is adding men's cross country as varsity program beginning in Fall 2010.  This brings the total number of NCAA Division III programs offered at the suburban Philadelphia campus to 14.  The team will compete in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Director of Athletics Dr. Karen Weaver said "Men's Cross Country has already drawn considerable interest from our current students.  We are excited to provide another opportunity for our student athletes to do what they love to do, which is compete."

Women's Cross Country Head Coach Jose Rodriguez has been named as head coach of the men's team as well.  In their inaugural season last fall, Rodriguez guided the team to an 8th place finish at the NEAC Championships.  Recruiting for the squad will begin immediately and for more information visit www.abington.psu.edu/athletics.
