SUNYIT Women’s Soccer Team Receives NSCAA Team Ethics Award

Gansevoort, NY - NEAC member SUNYIT women’s soccer team has received a 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Ethics Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the Laws of the Game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

The Lady Wildcats were among 45 teams that received the Silver Award from the NSCAA, which is given to teams that accumulate no red cards and a maximum of five yellow cards. SUNYIT received just four yellow cards on the year.

"I am extremely proud of our ladies,” explained Head Coach Tyler Renaud. “This is a great reward and positive reflection on our program. The squad has respect for the game and their opponents. Our goal is always no cards, but sometimes the physical nature of the game cannot be ignored by the officials. We take pride in our sportsmanship here at SUNYIT and will continue to do so while Coach Jaynes, Coach Conway and I oversee the program."

After starting the season 0-4, the Wildcats finished with a program-best record of 10-8-2 overall and finished second in the NEAC regular season standings at 8-2 in conference play. Their strong play throughout the season earned them bids to both the NEAC Championship Tournament and the ECAC DIII Women's Soccer Upstate Championship Tournament.
