The NEAC established a new approach to awarding its Presidents’ Cup in 2014-15 in an effort to truly reflect the core values of NCAA Division III. In addition to calculating athletics success, which was the only factor taken into consideration when awarding the conference’s Presidents’ Cup in the past, the NEAC now also takes into account three additional criteria: academics, sportsmanship and community service.

These three additional categories, along with athletics success, each have their own individual cup winners.  Each of the NEAC’s 14 full-member institutions were given a ranking based on their results from each category. The total rankings from all four categories are added together with the lowest overall score determining the NEAC Presidents’ Cup honoree.

This approach to determine the NEAC Presidents’ Cup winner is the first of its kind across all 42 NCAA Division III conferences.

2016-17 Winners:

NEAC Presidents' Cup: Lancaster Bible College

NEAC Athletics Directors' Cup: Penn State Abington

NEAC Athletics Direct Reports' Cup: Lancaster Bible College (Third-straight year)

NEAC Senior Woman Administrators' Cup: Morrisville State College (Second-straight year)

Note: The Athletics Directors’ Cup is calculated through a points system that takes into account each school’s finish in the final regular season standings for each team sport, as well as the championship finish for each individual sport sponsored within the NEAC.  Points earned from each sport by each school are added together and then divided by the total points allowed within the sports they compete in, which produces each school’s winning percentage, or “athletics success.”  This is done for both men’s and women’s sports (please see the next two tables below).  Each school’s combined points from their men’s and women’s sports are then also divided by the total points allowed within the sports they compete in to provide an overall winning percentage.

Note: The coaches for each sport voted on the level of sportsmanship that was exhibited during the season.  In sports with a sponsorship of more than six, coaches voted for the top-half of teams excluding their own, while ranking all teams but their own in sports with a sponsorship of six or less.  The higher the number of votes received, the better the score for that team.  Scores across all sports were then added together, with the total score being divided by the total number of sports sponsored by the institution.  The HIGHEST average score represents the best sportsmanship across the conference.

Note: Each institution submitted their results of community service that included the following criteria: total dollars raised, total number of participants, and total number of volunteer hours.  Each of these were reported with the best information possible.  Additionally, each SWA voted blindly for the top half of institutions on the success of community service at other institutions.  SWAs were not permitted to vote for their own institution.   Each institution received a ranking based on the best score in that category, with those rankings then being added together across all five categories to produce a total score.  The LOWEST score represents the best score.

Note (explanation of columns left to right from the third column over): "GPA Summary" reflects the total grade point average (GPA) for all NEAC student-athletes.  The "Total No. of SA" reflects the total number of NEAC student-athletes that competed in 2015-16.  The "GPA Average" reflects the average GPA by dividing the "GPA Summary" by the "Total No. of SA."  The "Rank" (fourth column of data) represents the rank from 1 (best) to 14 (least) on Average GPA where "best" reflects the highest Average GPA.  "Scholar-Athletes" reflects the total number of NEAC scholar-athletes.  The "Total No. of SA" is the same as previously described.  The "% of Scholars" reflects the percentage of NEAC scholar-athletes out of the total number of NEAC student-athletes, calculated with the "Scholar-Athlete" column being divided by the "Total No. of SA" column.  The second "Rank" column indicates the rank where institutional success is the "best" or "highest" percentage of NEAC scholar-athletes as compared to the entire NEAC student-athlete group.  The "Total" (last column) reflects the sum of the two "Rank" columns.  The lower the score, the higher the rank.
