Dennis, Rodriguez Receive NEAC Basketball Weekly Awards

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s and women’s basketball for the week ending Jan. 20. This week’s honorees include student-athletes from Morrisville State and Penn State Abington.                                                              

Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) from Morrisville State has been named NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the third time this season after recording a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for the Mustangs. Dennis scored 16 points with 16 rebounds and four blocked shots in an 83-76 win against Keuka on Jan. 16. The Morrisville State junior forward also added 25 points and 15 rebounds over the weekend in a win at Wells. Dennis shot 76.2 percent from the floor and 90.0 percent from the free-throw line while finishing the week with 41 points, 31 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and two assists.

Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.) from Penn State Abington has been selected as the NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week after averaging 29.5 points per game in two conference games last week. The Nittany Lions’ senior guard notched a double-double in a loss at Gallaudet with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Rodriguez had another strong showing over the weekend in a win against Lancaster Bible, scoring 29 points with four rebounds. In her two games, she posted a 46.5 field-goal percentage and was perfect in 10 attempts at the free-throw line. Rodriguez totaled 59 points on the week with 14 rebounds, five assists, one steal and three blocks.
