NEAC Begins Student-Athlete of the Week Awards for Men's and Women's Basketball

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s and women’s basketball for the week ending Nov. 11. This week marks the first weekly awards for the 2018-19 basketball season.

Noah Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) from Gallaudet University has been named NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week after opening the season with 58 points. The Bison’s junior guard scored a career-high 45 points in an 81-80 loss to Immaculata over the weekend. The single-game point total fell two points shy of the school record set in February 1965. In the season opener against Hood, Valencia added 13 points to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. He shot 56.5 percent from three-point territory and hit 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Valencia also finished the weekend with eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Caitlin Hickey (Lancaster, Pa.) from Lancaster Bible has been selected as the NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week with 34 points and a career milestone in a 1-1 opening week for the Chargers. Hickey had 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in Lancaster Bible’s 57-45 loss at Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday. The Chargers’ junior followed that up with 17 points, three rebounds, three steals and three assists in a dominant 76-30 win over Penn State Schuykill on Saturday. In her final two points Saturday, Hickey became the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 points.
