McGrain III, Uplinger Named NEAC Swimming & Diving Student-Athletes of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s and women’s swimming and diving for the week ending Nov. 4. This week’s awards go to swimmers from Gallaudet University and Cazenovia College.

Barry McGrain III (Lakeville, N.Y.) from Gallaudet University has been selected as the NEAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athlete of the Week as he won three events at the Cazenovia Invitational. The Bison’s rookie won the 100 and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 56.90 seconds and 5:50.65, respectively. He also placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:26.66. In addition to his individual wins, McGrain was part of the 200-yard medley relay team that won its event in 2:15.42. McGrain’s performance helped Gallaudet place first among the four teams in attendance with 238 team points.

Jenni Uplinger (Windsor, N.Y.) from Cazenovia College has been named the NEAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athlete of the Week after helping lift her team to a first-place finish at the Cazenovia Invitational. Uplinger finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:18.48. She also won the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle in 2:52.27 and 5:58.15, respectively. The Wildcats’ senior also swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished 14 seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 2:10.91.
