Sanchez, Vega Earn NEAC Softball Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced Genesis Sanchez and Alyssa Vega as its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in softball for the week ending March 11.

Genesis Sanchez (Camden, N.J.) from the College of Saint Elizabeth has been named the NEAC Softball Player of the Week after posting a .360 batting average in a 4-2 week for the Eagles. The rookie shortstop had nine hits in six games, including her first career home run on March 8 that gave the Eagles the lead in a 7-6 win over Pitt.-Greenburg. Sanchez also came through in the clutch with a two-run single to cap off a six-run comeback in a 7-6 win against New England College. She finished the week with nine RBIs and five runs scored.

Alyssa Vega (Elizabeth, N.J.), a sophomore from the College of Saint Elizabeth, has been selected as the NEAC Softball Pitcher of the Week with a 1-2 record in three appearances for the Eagles. She earned the win after tossing three innings of one-run ball in a 9-8 win over New England College on March 5. Vega turned in another solid outing in a 1-0 loss on March 7, allowing an unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts against Emmanuel. She surrendered three earned runs on the week and struck out 10 in 14 2/3 innings with a 1.43 ERA.


The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has fourteen NCAA Division III member institutions which include: Bryn Athyn College, Cazenovia College, College of St. Elizabeth, Gallaudet University, Keuka College, Lancaster Bible College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Pennsylvania State University – Abington, Pennsylvania State University – Berks, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Morrisville State College, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Wells College, and Wilson College.  Associate members are: Cedar Crest College (W Swimming), D’Youville College (M Volleyball), Hilbert College (M&W Lacrosse), Medaille College (M&W Lacrosse, M Volleyball), Pennsylvania State University – Altoona (M Volleyball), and Rutgers University – Camden (M Golf).
