Valverde, Nicholls Receive NEAC Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week Awards

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced Brenden Valverde and Tom Nicholls as its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s soccer for the week ending Oct. 8.

Brenden Valverde (Birdsboro, Pa.) from Penn State Berks has been named NEAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Valverde, a rookie forward, helped Penn State Berks to a pair of NEAC wins with eight points on the week. He began the weekend with a hat trick in a 4-1 victory at Morrisville State College before scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win at SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday. Valverde leads the NEAC with 16 goals and 37 points.

Tom Nicholls (Worcester, England) from Cazenovia College receives his second NEAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award of the season after a 2-1 week. The Wildcats’ junior goalkeeper opened the week with 10 saves in a 3-0 shutout against SUNY Delhi. In NEAC play, Nicholls allowed one goal with six stops in a 1-0 loss versus Bryn Athyn and recorded five saves in a 2-0 win over Wilson. In three games, he posted a .955 save percentage.
