NEAC Selects Softball, Baseball, Men's & Women's Lacrosse Student-Athletes of the Week for Mar. 13

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in softball, baseball, men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse for the week ending Mar. 12. Eight student-athletes from seven institutions received honors from the conference office for their performances.

Leah Segerlin (Rochester, N.Y.), a senior infielder from SUNY Polytechnic, has been named the NEAC Softball Player of the Week after hitting .526 and going 8-for-19 in six games. Segerlin drove in seven runs and scored eight runs to help the Wildcats to a 3-2 record in Myrtle Beach. She drew four walks and did not strike out in any of her 19 plate appearances. Segerlin’s top performance of the week came in a 9-4 win against Wentworth when she went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk. She finished the week with a .609 on-base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage.

Jessica Rozick (Bensalem, Pa.) from Penn State Berks has been honored as the NEAC Softball Pitcher of the Week. Rozick posted a 3-1 record from the circle including three complete games and a shutout in 24 innings of work. The sophomore pitcher recorded 32 strikeouts, including a season-high 10 in a 3-2 win over Lakeland, while allowing just 18 hits, four earned runs and eight walks. In addition to her work in the circle, Rozick contributed four hits and scored four runs.

Toby Welk (Downington, Pa.) from Penn State Berks has been named NEAC Baseball Player of the Week after batting .476 in his first full week of play this season. The reigning NEAC Rookie of the Year went 10-for-21 with one home run, four doubles and six RBIs. Welk matched his career-high for hits in a game with four in a win over Dean College on Mar. 9. Welk also picked up a pair of doubles in victories over Manhattanville and Dean. He finished the week with an .810 slugging percentage and a .455 on-base percentage.  

Zack Leonard (Quarryville, Pa.), a junior from Lancaster Bible College, has been selected as the NEAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Leonard had the best outing of his career in a 4-2 win against Alfred State on Mar. 12, pitching in to the ninth inning to earn his first win of the season. He allowed three hits, two earned runs and one walk while striking out eight in the Chargers’ victory. Leonard is 1-0 this season with a 3.27 ERA and 12 strikeouts.

Amanda Ruszczyk (West Seneca, N.Y.), a senior from Medaille College, has been named the NEAC Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. Ruszczyk led the Mavericks’ offense with 10 goals and 11 points in two games as Medaille defeated Randolph and Wentowrth Institute of Technology to improve to 3-0 on the year. She tallied hat tricks in both games, scoring three goals on four shots against Randolph and seven goals against Wentworth. Ruszczyk also added two ground balls, 16 draw controls and three caused turnovers.  

Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) from Morrisville State College has been named the NEAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after a 1-1 week for the Mustangs. In a loss to Rhodes College on Mar. 7, the senior defender picked up four ground balls, two draw controls and caused four turnovers. Anderson added six ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 13-4 win over Muskingum on Mar. 9 while also contributing one goal.

Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.), a senior attackman from Wells College, has earned NEAC Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week accolades after scoring seven goals and recording five ground balls in a 16-11 win at Houghton College on Mar. 7. With that performance, Milliken reached 109 career goals to become the all-time leader in goals scored at Wells and surpass the previous mark of 106 goals held by Daniel Munsell (’13). His seven-goal performance was the second-highest scoring day of his career. Milliken is only the second player in Express history to reach the 100-career goals mark.

John Montaniz (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) from SUNY Cobleskill has been named NEAC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after helping  the Fighting Tigers earn a 16-2 victory over Keystone College on Mar. 8. The senior goalkeeper allowed just one goal and made 11 saves in 57:55 of play for a 91.7 save percentage. With the win, SUNY Cobleskill moves to 2-0 on the season.
