NEAC's Announces The Student-Athlete of the Week Selections for 9-13-10

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announces student-athlete of the week selections for week ending Sunday, September 12, 2010 in the sports of men’s & women's cross country, men's golf, men’s & women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.

Conor Cashin (Albany, NY) was selected as the NEAC Men’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for his 6th place finish out of 167 finishers in the 2010 Steven A. Warde Invitational hosted by SUNY Cobleskill.  Cashin, a freshman, finished the 5.2 mile race in 28:14.67 (5:25 per mile pace) to lead his SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers  to a 4th place finish out of 18 teams.

 

 

 

Brittany Hinton (Freehold, NJ) was selected as the NEAC Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for her 1st place finish out of 82 finishers in the Baruch College Invitational held at Van Cortlandt Park.  Hinton, a junior, finished the 6K race in 24:36 (6:35 per mile pace) to lead his College of St. Elizabeth Screaming Eagles to a 5th place finish out of 9 teams.

 

 

 

Alex Taylor (Voorhees, NJ) was selected as the NEAC Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance during the first day of competition in the Penn State Harrisburg Fall Classic held at Dauphin Highland Golf Course in Highspire, PA.  Taylor, a junior for the Rutgers University Scarlet Raptors, shot a first round even-par 72 to take the individual leading his team to a first day 5th place team finish among 9 teams with a team total 315.

 

 

 

Shane Sullivan (Sherrill, NY) was selected as the NEAC Men’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for his strong defensive play for the SUNY Morrisville State College Mustangs.  Sullivan, junior goalkeeper, had a total of 10 saves, 1 goal against, and 0.44 goal against average in two games.   In his first game this week, he tallied 2 saves and not goals allowed in 45 minutes while in the second game he made 8 crucial saves in the 2-1 victory over conference rival Cazenovia.  He led his team to a 2-0 week (1-0 in conference play). 

 

 

 

Alyssa Scheidt (Reading, PA) was selected as the NEAC Women’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for her offensive proficiency for the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions.  Scheidt, a freshman forward, scored 6 goals and had 1 assists for a total of 13 points on the week.  She led her team to 2-0 week in NEAC play where she scored 2 goals including the game winner against Keuka College in a 4-3 overtime win and added four more goals and one assist against Wells in the 8-1 victory.

 

 

 

Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY) was selected as the NEAC Women’s Volleyball Student-Athlete of the week for her tremendous week for the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats.  Vedder, a junior outside hitter, finished the week playing 14 games with 69 kills (4.9/game) on 152 attempst and 14 errors (.362 hitting percentage), 71 digs (5.1/game), 4 aces, 2 total blocks, and 5.29 points per game.  Despite the teams 1-3 record on the week, she set new marks this week as the SUNYIT all-time career kill leader and as well as reaching her 1,000 career kill.  She also had two double-doubles this week with 22 kills and 16 digs in one match and 18 kills and 16 digs in another.
