North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for 3/29/10
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announces student-athlete of the week selections for the week ending March 28, 2010 in the sports of men’s baseball, women’s softball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s tennis and women’s tennis.
Aaron Klaptosky (Pottstown, PA) was selected as the NEAC
West Division Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week.
Klaptosky, a senior catcher for the Penn State-Berks
Nittany Lions was selected for his outstanding
performance at the plate this week in leading his team to a 2-0
record in the NAC West and a 3-2 record overall. Klaptosky averaged
.444 at the plate going 8-for-18 with 9 runs, 11 RBI, 2 doubles and
2 home runs. He had a slugging % of .888, 2 walks, 2 stolen
bases and an on base percentage of .500. Behind the plate,
Klaptosky had 21 putouts, 4 assists and zero errors (a perfect
fielding percentage). In two wins over Cazenovia College,
Klaptosky finished with 2 home runs and 9 RBI’s.
Kyle Vanidestine (Bangor, ME) was selected as NEAC East
Division Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week. Vanidestine, a
sophomore outfielder for Husson University
Eagles was selected for his performance at the plate
in leading Husson to four NEAC victories over
Maine-Farmington. Vanidestine averaged .450 at the plate
going 9-for-20 with 9 runs and 3 RBI.
Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY) was selected as the NEAC
Softball Student-Athlete of the Week. Vedder, a sophomore
pitcher/first baseman for the SUNY Institute of
Technology Wildcats was selected for her performance
at the plate and on the mound this week. Vedder averaged .800
at the plate going 12-for-15 with 6 runs, 13 RBI, 5 doubles, a
triple and a home run. She had a slugging % of 1.333, 2 walks
and an on base percentage of .824. On the mound, Vedder went
2-0, striking out 5 over 12 innings and holding her opponents to a
.265 batting average as the Wildcats went 3-1 in NEAC play.
Dan Hunt (Skaneateles, NY) was selected as the NEAC
Men’s Lacrosse Student-Athlete of the Week. Hunt, a
junior attackman for the Wells College
Expresswas selected for his outstanding offensive
effort this week, helping the Express to a 1-0 record in NEAC play
and their first win in program history. In the 12-7 win over
Penn State-Abington, Hunt scored 7 goals on 10 shots, had 2 assists
and collected 6 individual grounds balls.
Jessica Allen (Mexico, ME) was selected as the NAC East
Division Women's Lacrosse Co-Student Athlete of the Week.
Allen, a senior attack for the University of
Maine-Farmington Beavers led the Beavers to a 2-0
record for the week, including a NAC East win over Green Mountain
College. Allen netted 6 goals, had 2 assists and collected 12
individual ground balls.
Kiley Jolicoeur (Oakland, ME) was selected as the NAC
East Division Women's Lacrosse Co-Student Athlete of the
Week. Jolicoeur, a junior attack for the Thomas
College Terriers had 7 goals and collected 6
individual ground balls as the Terriers defeated Daniel Webster
College 13-5 for their first win of the season.
Carmen Velazquez (Syracuse, NY) was selected as the NAC
West Division Women’s Lacrosse Student-Athlete of the
Week. Velazquez, a senior midfielder for the
Morrisville State Mustangs was selected
for her outstanding offensive effort, despite the Mustangs 1-2
record for the week. Velazquez had 12 goals on 19 shots, an
assist and 14 individual ground balls for the week. In an
11-10 loss to Division II Fort Lewis, Velazquez netted a team high
5 goals and in a 16-9 win over Medaille College, she scored 6 times
and added an assist as the Mustangs remained undefeated in
conference action.
John Taft (Queensbury, NY) was selected as the NAC West
Division Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for his
performance for the Oneonta State Red
Dragons. Taft, a junior went 3-0 at #5 singles
and 2-0 at #2 doubles in leading Oneonta State to 3-0 record and a
2-0 against NAC West opponents. In going 5-0 during the week,
Taft surrendered only three games in singles and one in doubles
action.
Kevin Eisenberg (Moultonborough, NH) was selected as the
NAC East Division Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for his
performance for the Castleton State
Spartans. Eisenberg, a freshman helped
Castleton to a perfect 2-0 week as the Spartans earned wins at Sage
College and North Atlantic Conference foe Thomas. Eisenberg
dropped just three total games in earning a pair of wins at third
singles. Eisenberg was a perfect 2-0 in doubles matches, earning
8-0 wins at first doubles with Sam Levine, and third doubles with
Corey Kimball.
Tessa Doyle (Smithsburg, MD) was selected as the NEAC
West Division Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the week for
her performance for the Wilson College
Phoenix. Doyle, a junior went 4-0 at #2 singles
and 4-0 at #1 doubles in leading Wilson to their first NEAC tennis
victory against Keuka College. In four singles matches, Doyle
did not drop a set and remained undefeated on the season at #2
singles for the Phoenix.
