NEAC Student-Athlete Spotlight: Toby Welk, Penn State Berks

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - Each week throughout the fall semester, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) will highlight student-athletes from one of the conference's member institutions through a brief Q & A. Female student-athletes will be featured each Thursday followed by a male student-athlete spotlight each Friday. Today, we get to know Toby Welk from Penn State Berks.

Name: Toby Welk
Hometown: Downingtown, Pa.

What is your current class year and major?

I am a senior studying Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Why did you choose to attend Penn State Berks?

I chose Penn State Berks because the school offered a Penn State education and the opportunity to play with a baseball family instead of a team.

What does it mean to you to be a member of the Penn State Berks baseball team?

Penn State Berks baseball and everyone involved in the school has significantly helped to mold me into the person I am today. Over the past four years, I have learned confidence and some of the most important life lessons.

If you could pick one favorite moment at Penn State Berks, what would it be?

My favorite moment from Penn State Berks was easily when I was on second base for Alex Doyle's walk-off homerun against preseason ranked No. 4 Salisbury during the 2016 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.

What are your career aspirations or future goals?

After graduation, my goal is to work for five-seven years, buy a truck, and move out west to start a hunting outfitter.

Are you involved in additional activities, clubs, etc. on campus outside of athletics?

I am a three-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus.

Confidence, Fun, Focus

What is your pregame routine? Any superstitions?

I usually watch highlight videos of professional hitters having success to help visualize myself doing the same and listen to Meek Mill or motivational speakers.
